A enlightening simple rework….I know that was really bad, yet I couldn’t help myself.LOL!!!
Several years ago a dear friend and I went out of town, to go thrift store shopping. Consequently we ended up finding out city wide garage sales was going on. Wowza, were we excited! Well needless to say we hit the town. Even stayed over night and hit it hard the next morning. We had her Toyota Rav packed, no space left for anything. Yet there was one more sale we wanted to check out before we left town. Of course you know what happened. LOL!!
There they were two lamps that I just “had” to have. Unfortunately they weren’t just little night stand lamps, that I might be able to hold in my lap. Seems like I already had something taking up that space anyway. LOL!! So what is a girl to do, but call her hubby. Bless his heart he was willing to come and get them. We had a whole lot of fun and it makes for a funny story.
Over the many years I have had them, they have moved from room to room. I put a tassel on them for awhile.
Later I decided I no longer liked the gold on them, so I reworked them. Therefore I painted them a cream color,
and antiqued them with a stain.
Basically like I did on this bench, yet just a much darker finish. Consequently, they almost look like they are carved out of wood. Furthermore the details show up much better.
Hence now the shade didn’t look the greatest. As a result I decided to cover them with burlap and add a magnetic flower that I purchased at Hobby Lobby. I laid the burlap out on the table and traced the lamp shade rolling it as I went. Making sure to leave about a two inch allowance, top and bottom. Finally I cut it out and laid it over the shade making sure it would fit. Moving on, I sprayed the shade with spray adhesive and began to carefully lay the burlap onto the shade. The spray adhesive was fairly forgiving. Therefore I was able to lift it back up as long as I did it quickly. In conclusion I tucked the left over up inside and spray glued it as well, as the seam in back.
Sometimes I think it’s time to get rid of them. Yet all the memories wrapped in the story, I just can’t bring myself to do so yet.
Hope your rework lights up your life this week! 🙂
In conclusion, I also have to admit, that most of the stuff in her Toyota was mine. LOL!! In my defense I did buy a lot of clothes for my family on that trip. Since I can’t remember anything else we got, that must have been the majority of it. Ha Ha
Grateful for the fun memories!!
