Are you looking for a dining room on a budget you can be proud of?
because I think I have one for you.
Ok, first of all I have to show you the way back, “before” pictures.
Then a few years later we painted over the heavy wallpaper that had been painted before, knowing someday we would remove it completely.
I don’t ever recommend painting over wallpaper, it makes it miserable to get off later. However this one was super easy because it was so thick with many layers.
As you can see from our special little helper(Our 4th granddaughter)
The other layers were a little tougher,
We still applied the same treatment I talked about here.
After removing all the wallpaper, my husband fixed a few cracks and stuff and we were on our way. First we painted the ceiling, then the walls.
The china hutch, we painted antique white along with all the wood work.
There’s a little secret I need to tell you about that hutch, it wasn’t always there.
No, no, I know it’s hard to believe, but I will show you. If you look at the three top pictures(old ones) in this post, the one in the middle shows where it use to be.
See it through the doorway?
Some one before us painted it part white and left the rest wood.
What you don’t know, is there is a big radiator under it now.
We cut off the bottom set of drawers and lifted, yes I said lifted, just my husband and I, lifted that thing up on top of the bracing my husband had put together.
Just between you and me, I thought we were goners. LOL!!
Oh! Oh! I forgot to mention this thing is oak.
I truly believe, God sent some angels, while shaking his head at us. LOL!!
My husband closed in the bottom by building frames around some oval, iron, decorative, grates we found so the heat could get out.
I love ceiling treatments.
I truly do see it as another wall, except above your head.
We painted a rectangle space on the ceiling the size we needed of a darker paint color.
Now you ready for it,
are you sure?
The moulding around the rectangle is a painted picture frame I got off the curb with a huge picture of a matador in it.
Hope that makes you smile. lol
Wow, I just thought about something. My mom has told me many times I’m like a bull in a china cupboard.
Well, do you see it….ok moving on. LOL!!!
Then of course the middle is just a ceiling medallion you can find in many places.
The Chandelier use to hang in a large store in Des Moines, Iowa, I purchased it for $40.00 off of Marketplace. I love it!!
I forgot to mention we put crown moulding around the ceiling. Always worth doing, in my opinion, makes a major difference.
Add a few decorations.
This is truly a simple one.
Hang two antique leaded glass doors, that we removed from an old cupboard along time ago, on the wall. It could be any cupboard doors. Make a quick wreath or buy one, add some burlap ribbon and attach it to the doors.
The table arrangement I talked about here.
Wait for it!
WA-LAH(for those proper people-VOILA-I Googled it just for you. lol)
Hope you enjoyed my rendition of a dining room on a budget you can be proud of.
I enjoyed showing it to you.
