It wouldn’t be right to not tell this story about God’s gift of the stove. Especially while we’re on the kitchen remodel here.
You know me and my curb shopping.
My mother-in-law had been staying with us for awhile and was going home that day. She just happens to live in the best curb shopping town ever, and it was clean up days.
As I was taking her home she said she would love to ride along as I shopped. I love my mother-in-law dearly, so I was glad to have her along. Now the thing you need to know is she is around 80-85 years old at this time. Can’t really remember exactly what year this happened. That being said, she is in excellent shape and does very well.
This was our stove at the time.
You can’t tell by the picture, but we had to be very careful when we opened up the oven because the door would fall off sometimes. LOL!!
So when my husband left for work that morning he said “Well maybe you should be looking for a stove while you are curb shopping.” We laughed and he went to work.
Well believe it or not we were driving around a very wealthy area and there was a stove sitting out in the driveway. It had a sign on it reading WORKS JUST GOT A NEW ONE. I didn’t mention, the town knows people are picking stuff up, so quite often they let you know things work. Sometimes they even put screws, remotes, manuals, etc. with the item.
Well ok now, how on earth am I going to pick up this stove by myself and get it into the van? No way I’m going to let my mother-in-law help me. If she got hurt I would never forgive myself. I got out looked at it and decided I was just going to have to forget it. There was no way I could get it by myself.
So I drove away and said God if I’m suppose to have that then it will still be there when I come back, and will you help me get it in.
So we drove around the rest of the town for a couple hours or more and I decided to go back and check. Sure enough it was still there. I told my mother-in-law I’m going to try it. I backed up our van real close, opened the hatch, leaned the stove back, and lifted it up in there like it weighed nothing. God’s gift. He’s so good!!!
My mother-in-law was standing by watching and was amazed at how easily it went up in there, and so was I.
That evening I was so excited for my husband to get home so I could tell him. When we went to get it out of the van, I was telling him how light it was and the whole story. However now it was incredibly heavy and very difficult to get into the house.
I certainly know I had some divine help that day.
But wait, the story doesn’t end there. You see this was a Jenn-Air stove and the blower thingy that vents to the outside wasn’t with this stove. Evidently they just vented it to the inside or they needed it for their new one. Either way it wasn’t there. I agreed with my husband that it wasn’t that big of a deal and would be fine with it venting inside. However God had a different idea.
The next day I went back to shop another part of the town, since each part has their day. Now this part of town was a long ways away from where I got the stove. As I was driving a long looking I saw a plastic tub, got out to see what was in it, and believe it or not it was the vent piece that I needed, a griddle, and a couple extra burners. The burners didn’t match but we didn’t care, we could change them all out depending on what we needed. God never ceases to amaze me!! It was definitely God’s gift to us.
