I hope you’re as excited to see our kitchen remodel step by step, as I am to show you. It was a long hard undertaking but very worth it.
Let the fun Begin!!
The doors came off the cabinets.
The cabinets came down. (Wait till you see what we did with some of the old cabinets)
We needed to remove the plaster from a couple walls because they were a little crumbly and totally uneven to hang cabinets on.(So I was told LOL!!)I always hate those kind of things they take longer and I want to get to the pretty stuff.
Leveled out the walls.(Do you hear the crickets?LOL)
Raised up the doorway into the other room so it would be even with the ceiling of the other room.
New electricity and plumbing ran. This was some spliced old wiring we found behind the walls.
Sheet rock went back up. Always a good sign.LOL My husband says that more of a kitchen is behind the walls then in front. I’m sure he’s right, however I sure like what’s in front way more then what’s behind.
Now the REALLY fun begins!!!
Painting happened
Cabinets went in. We bought the cabinets from a family that was remodeling their home, and buying new. Very blessed!!
We chose to extend the kitchen into the adjoining room(I’ll show you that in the next post) by moving the refrigerator on the other side of the wall. It was a load bearing wall or we would have removed it. My husband knows his limits.
COUNTERTOPS!!!
I had seen so many kitchens on HGTV getting granite, marble, etc. countertops. I knew that was not in the budget. However I was ecstatic when I found a carrara marble look alike in my price range. It had always been my favorite, but never believed I would have it. I was given a small piece of real Carrara marble when I was a child, and I still have it to this day.
Stove and microwave went back in. See the story here about the stove.
The sink and dishwasher went back in. Notice they changed from where they were. See here where they were before.
Do you LOVE that sink? I about screamed when I saw it at the Habit for Humanity restore, still in the box. Another gift from God. I have to admit to you, I prayed Lord is there anyway I could find a farm sink at the restore or somewhere else. I sadly believed that it probably wasn’t going to happen since they are so expensive and popular. However that doesn’t limit God. There it was, in all it’s glory, for less than half price. The angels sang!!!
I felt sorry for the guy working that day. I said “Is this really this price?” He assured me it was.
“I will take it!!”
“Can you put a sold sign on it, or better yet move it to the front with my name on it and a big sold sign on it.”
I think he thought I had lost my mind. I just didn’t want it to get away. LOL!!
We buy a lot of stuff at the restore. Great place to get an amazing bargain.
Another desire filled is that little thing right there. Yes it’s an instant hot water dispenser, also tap water as well. Wonderful for tea, hot chocolate, etc. Found it at the restore, brand new in the box. It’s the little things that make us so happy. 🙂
The tile arrived. No we didn’t order that much tile, and certainly didn’t except it to come like this. Yet, WAIT UNTILL YOU SEE IT!!
I absolutely LOVE it!!!
A BEAUTIFUL arabesque gray tile!!
However if we ever purchased it again I think we would hire a professional. (Who am I fooling we hardly ever hire a professional.) LOL!! It was the toughest we have done to date. It definitely wasn’t done perfectly, yet it was perfect to me.
Thanks to our son-in-law for sharing his barn wood from their old barn we added some open shelving.
Later we wallpapered the ceiling, and painted it two shades lighter than the walls.
We put the floor down(brand new in the box from ReStore), the lights up(light over the sink-ReStore) ceiling fan, etc. and my husband surprised me with new appliances.(we had picked them out for “someday”)So blessed!!
Our actual plan was to buy more cabinets to put on top of these, paint them all white, and add the large crown to that, so it would go to the ceiling, along with a few other changes. However, I had grown rather fond of the wood look, so who knows what would have really happened.
However when we found our log home near our daughter, that plan soon changed.
Lastly we put up the large crown moulding to finish it off. I hope you enjoyed our kitchen remodel step by step. I love showing you our ideas, I hope in some way they may help you with your own remodel. If there is ever a time I can help you figure something out please ask, I would love to.
More excitement yet to come!!
Remember, the corner on the other side of the doorway, where is the refrigerator, what did we do with the old cabinets?

Love the post and loved the kitchen!!
Thanks Pam, the part you asked me about is coming up soon. 🙂
