When we first moved here, 17 years ago, this wallpaper was a part of my attraction to this house. Although as time has gone on, my tastes have changed. Consequently, it was time to remove the wallpaper and update the entry.
I have removed many layers of wallpaper in my days and still believe in warm Downey water and a five in one tool. Works the best for me, is inexpensive, and our house smells amazing. I guess any fabric softener would work. Many people I know find it a daunting task. Yet I believe it is very therapeutic. I put on some good music and start scraping, the results are very gratifying.
When we changed over to forced air,(major God story I will share soon) we removed a thin radiator, on the right. If you look close you can see the dark spots on the floor. After refinishing the floor and stairs, we moved onto painting. Using a homemade platform my husband made for the stairs, we painted all the walls “Latte”. It is 20′ from the floor to the ceiling, so you can only imagine the hairy ladder angles we had going on.
I used my Pazzles cutter to cut out the verse for the wall, and my amazing, patient, husband measured it all out and applied it.
It is 4’wide x 4’5″ tall and cut out of black vinyl, so if we ever move I can take it with me.
We added a new chandelier.(new to us) It was a curb find along with the shades. We spray painted it antique bronze and we were good to go.
Later on I hope to paint a large family tree on the left wall. I will share the pictures when it is finished. Hope to have some other fun projects for this stairway as well. In the comments share your stairway remakes or remodels. I would love to see them.
Have a Joyful day!
